Approximations To VII CPC Pensions Of Lt Col / Wg Cdr / Cdr

A great deal of speculation is on as to how pensions of armed forces veterans will be calculated keeping in view both OROP and recommendations of VII CPC.

Based on these inputs, which cover a wider range of concerns, I have taken the relevant portion of the VII CPC matrix and specifically calculated, in possible ways in which fixation of pensions could take place as affecting pre 01 Jan 2016 retirees in ranks of Lt Col / Wg Cdr / Cdr.

Needless to add, these are merely for the sake of understanding how VII CPC could affect pensions.

There is a very broad assumption, quoted online by various bloggers, that index number 1 of level 12-A in VII CPC matrix would correspond to a service of 14 years as Lt Col rank is nowadays given at a service of 13 years. The calculations to the right of the table are based on this assumption.

If the assumption is correct, all the veterans who retired between 01 January 2006 and 31 December 2015 would draw pensions correctly as per the matrix as they would all have been at the same stage of their pay-bands as per their service as given at the corresponding matrix index number.

But the situation is far from clear how pre 01 January 2006 retirees would get their pensions fixed.

To illustrate, readers who retired as Lt Col/Wg Cdr/Cdr can check the number of increments they had earned in their pay-scales or paybands at retirement and check various VII CPC pension estimates in the table against the index number. They can compare these with the various pension estimates as against the QS given in the approximate service column.

Feedback, suggestions and comments would be welcome.
